Geranium Essential Oil
Regenerating, Geranium Essential Oil is widely used in cases of skin prone to redness. Its purifying compounds make Geranium essential oil an ideal care ingredient for uncomfortable skin or skin prone to imperfections. To purify the ambient air, Geranium essential oil gives off a very pleasant rich and flowery fragrance.
Rich in monoterpenols, with powerful antifungal and anti-infectious properties, the essential oil of Geranium, or Rose Geranium, is traditionally used in cases of mycosis, minor bleeding or skin infections. Studies show that it contains compounds capable of repelling insects and mosquitoes, which is why it is commonly used in air diffusion.
Native to southern Africa, pelargonium – or florist’s cranesbill – belongs to the Geraniaceae family. The Greek origin of the botanical name of this plant is “geranos”, which means “crane” in comparison to the fruit of the plant with the beak of this bird. The geranium was imported to Europe at the end of the 16th century. Its pretty, fragrant flowers, pink, white or red, met with great success there and it quickly became very fashionable at the court and in the gardens of the castles of France. Gardeners have tried their hand at numerous hybridizations over the centuries and today there are more than 600 species of geranium! They are cultivated all over the world, particularly in China and the Maghreb countries, including Egypt. The Egyptian Geranium is a Rose Geranium and has the same properties as its Bourbon counterpart, however the “Bourbon” Geranium is renowned for its finer, flowery and sweet olfactory quality.
The essential oil of Geranium is traditionally used to improve the following situations: Cutaneous mycosis, candidiasis, Slimming, diabetes, water retention, Skin rashes, skin problems, eczema, psoriasis, impetigo, Nosebleeds, small cuts, General fatigue
