Passionflower
The primary use of Passionflower is in its sedative and nervine actions and thus is a great help in cases of insomnia, stress and anxiety. It is also used to lower blood pressure. Passionflower has a calming effect on the central nervous system, making it effective in easing nerve pain. It induces restful sleep without grogginess the following day. It may also be smoked as an interrupter to nicotine.
Contrary to its name which was given by South American missionaries who likened its exquisite flower to the crucifix, Passionflower is a relaxant and nerve tonic which soothes the adrenal glands and also interacts with the nicotine receptors in the human brain, making it an excellent herb for assisting in combating nicotine cravings and withdrawal. This makes it an excellent admixture to smoking blends, and can be employed as part of a harm minimisation strategy.
Preparation
1 tsp/cup, steep covered 10 minutes. Drink 3 times daily for stress, or before bed for insomnia.
