The origin of is uncertain. It grows wild in the Near East and Southern Europe, hence the comment: “It is difficult to define exactly where this plant is wild and where it has only recently established itself”. A few dried pericarps have been found in the Nahal Hemar cave in Israel, which is perhaps the oldest archaeological trace of (around 6000 BC). In Egypt, the oldest evidence of the use of the fruits is a papyrus dated 1550 BC which lists medicinal plants. Pericarps were found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. Their presence is common in other tombs of ancient Egypt at that time. As does not exist in the wild in Egypt, this discovery is like a proof that coriander was cultivated.

Coriander seems to have also been cultivated in Ancient Greece at least since the 2nd millennium BC. In France, archaeological excavations have brought to light the presence of Coriander since Antiquity (between the 1st century BC and the 5th century). It is one of the plants whose cultivation was recommended in the royal domains by Charlemagne at the end of the 8th or beginning of the 9th century.

Precautions for use and proper use of essential oils

*Read before use*

  • Use essential oils with moderation and care. Essential oils are very powerful.
  • Essential oils should not be applied to the eyes, the eye contour or in the ears. In case of contact, apply a neutral vegetable oil and rinse with water. Consult a doctor quickly. Essential oils must be diluted for application to mucous membranes.
  • Always keep essential oils out of reach and out of sight of children. For their safety, never remove the dropper cap from the bottles of essential oils.
  • Some oils can be irritating or particularly sensitizing. The majority of essential oils are used diluted in a vegetable oil on the skin. We recommend that you always carry out a skin tolerance test in the crease of the elbow for at least 48 hours before any use on the skin, either pure or diluted. If you observe a reaction (redness, irritation, tingling, etc.), do not use the mixture.
